MACRO ECONOMIC SIMULTANIOUS MODEL FOR EGYPTIAN NATIONAL ECONOMY

Gross national product (GNP) is considered as one of the important indicators that reflect the ability of national economy to achieve the main objectives of the state including creation of employment opportunities, development of export potentials, and positive contribution in reduction of the deficits in the balance of payments and the balance of trade. Analysis of the most important components of the gross national income is of considerable importance that enables the identification of changing values of individual components of the gross national product. The study aimed at identifying causes of imbalance in the national economy through the following determination of the relative importance of Egyptian GNP and development of important economic indicators in the Egyptian national economy. Analysis and identification of the most important economic factors affecting expenditure on consumption, investment, exports and imports are mode through building single and multiple equation models aiming at identifying the most important economic factors affecting variables of the study. Moreover, forecasting the most are also mode important variables until.2020. Results obtained indicated that the household consumer expenditure in 2012 was equal to 158.5 billion Dollars representing 58% of the GNP, followed by Investment expenditure, representing 18% of GNP, followed by government expenditure, total exports and total imports representing 9%, 8% and 7%, respectively. Results obtained proved that the most important economic indicators increased annually with different rates during the study period. Studying of the mutual impact between GNP and the study variables through building an econometric model and applying two stage least square method. The model contains six equations for GNP, total investments, total imports, total exports, government expenditure, and household expenditure. In addition, an identification equation for the (GNP= household expenditure + Investment expenditure + Government expenditure + net international trade). The study proved that while the most important determinants of the Egyptian GNPare total investments, total exports and imports factors, mostly affect total investment are total GNP, total Egyptian exports and exchange rate Egyptian Pound. In addition, factors determining total Egyptian Imports are total exports and the exchange rate of the Egyptian Pound. Moreover, factors determining government expenditure are total exports and households consumption. Furthermore, the household consumption is highly affected by GNP and total indirect taxes. Forecasted values of the study variables are obtained by estimating single equation trend model and simultaneous equation model. Results obtained indicated that the forecasted value of the Egyptian GNP in 2020 will be equal to 334$ and 335 billion Dollars using single trend equation and simultaneous equation models, respectively. The forecasted total investment in 2020 is expected to be equal 64 billion dollars. The forecasted Total Egyptian imports and exports using single trend equation are 33.2, and 29.2, billion dollars, respectively. The forecasted values of total exports and imports in 2020 using simultaneous equation model are 32.8, and 830.1, respectively. Regarding Government expenditure results obtained indicated that the forecasted government expenditure is expected to take values of 31.9 and 51.4 billion dollars using single equation trend model and simultaneous equation model, respectively. Results related to the forecasted household expenditure in 2020 is expected to take values of $206.5 billion and $334 billion using single equation trend model and simultaneous equation model, respectively. Based on the research results, best forecasted values the study variables are obtained by using simultaneous equation models. This may be attributed to the fact that simultaneous equation mod- els takes into account all variables as well as the interactions between variables. Based on results the study recommend that the state would give the highest priority to economic policy that would lead to rationalization of household expenditure. In addition, aiming at reducing the Egyptian trade balance, policies that would lead to reduction of the gap between imports and exports by limiting imports and encouraging exports are highly recommended. Moreover, policies that increase and encourage investment, limit inflation, and control of prices of goods and services are expected to have positive impact on the Egyptian economy.

AN ECONOMIC STUDY OF THE PEANUT CROP IN EGYPT

Oil crops occupies an important place in theEgyptian Agricultural Savin, come to their importance in the demand derived from the demand for the production of food plant oils , which form a pattern prevailed for the Egyptian consumers, some oil crops grown for the use of its products for the purposes of bilateral or trilateral. The peanut harvest of export crops important addition to being one of the many crops to use and is characterized by high net yield of it compared to other crops. The research Targeting answer to previous questions and to try to develop solutions to overcome the problems that hinder the increased production of the crop peanuts in Egypt, especially as it crops which enjoys high quality in the territories does not bestow the cultivation of other field crops, as research aims to identify the most influential variable in response farmers to grow the crop and the study of functions and production costs for this crop. The results indicate that the average annual area planted peanuts estimated at about 137, 70 feddan during the period (2009-2012), the average productivity Per feddan which is estimated at 17.59 Ardeb, while the average production of about 4352,20 million Ardeb for the same period referred to, Results also indicated response function width of the crop that the most important economic factors affecting the area planted peanuts in Egypt is the net yield per feddan of maize crop summer, summer tomatoes, sesame. The estimated production functions and costs for the three classes of possessory crop in the study sample. Finally, research suggests the following: 1- The development of varieties of high productivity copes with the Egyptian conditions with the application of Modern Technology in Agricultural Methods with the help of research organizations and Agricultural extension. 2- Work to increase the Organic fertilizer and reduce the amount of chemical fertilizer where it leads to increased production and reduced costs as indicated by the results of the study sample. 3- Encourage the establishment of factories involved in manufacturing main production areas such as the provinces of Nubaria and Lower Egypt (El-Beheira – El-Sharkeya - Ismailia) to encourage farmers to increase their production and supply at affordable prices.

ECONOMICAL EVALUATION OF USING DIFFERENT TYPES OF IRRIGATION WATER IN PRODUCING WHEAT CROP

This research aimed to study the economical impacts of using different types of irrigation water to produce wheat crop, through economic analysis of crop production and its costs, in order to maximize the income of each unit of water. The sample of study was choosed from wheat farmers in El.Sharkia Governorate. The results indicated that the productivity of one feddan irrigated with fresh water and groundwater was 18.09 and 18.08 ardab/fed respectively. It was 17.72 and 17.11 ardab/fed. for land irrigated with mixed water and drainage water respectively. The feddan irrigated with fresh water consumed 2672 m3 compared with 2922, 2841 and 3263 m3 for groundwater, mixed water and drainage water respectively. The feddan of wheat irrigated with groundwater gave the high- est return of income changed costs that was 1.233 pounds. The farmers in the study sample used quantities of irrigation water greater than the amount that achieve efficiency in the case of irrigation with groundwater rate of 6.23%, while the farmers in the stud[1]y sample used quantities less than the amounts that achieve efficiency by 1.27%, 10.9%, 7.9% for wheat irrigated with fresh water, mixed water and drainage water, respectively. The research recommended using these different qualities of water in irrigation, but in the context of a set of parameters with not of focusing on the use of agricultural drainage water directly due to the Low productivity per feddan and the low average of water unit production and the share of water unit of the net return, certain attention should be paid to mixing drainage water with Nile water, and also to treating drainage water before mixing with fresh water of River Nile.

SUBSTITUTION AND COMPLEMENTARY RELATIONSHIPS OF EGYPTIAN EXPORTS FROM FRESH AND FROZEN POTATOES IN GLOBAL MARKET PREPARED BY

Aim of this study is to examine the substitution and complementary relationships of Egyptian exports from fresh and frozen potatoes in the global market. The study focused on investigating current situation of Egyptian exports from fresh and frozen potatoes at world market in comparison to its situation at Egyptian market. Hereby, demand on Egyptian fresh and frozen potatoes was assessed and time trends of price developments were statistically estimated and their relationship to global prices were analyzed. Most important results of existing study are summarized in the following points The analysis of Egyptian and global export prices for fresh and frozen potatoes during the time period 2000- 2012 showed increasing trends of both, which is statistically significant. The results showed increasing demand on frozen at the cost of fresh potatoes. This also matches with same development at global market. The development of export prices of Egyptian potatoes (fresh and frozen) matches with the development of prices at global market. The relationship between Egyptian and global export prices has shown linear and stable between 2000 and 2012. It seems also that export prices of frozen Egyptian potatoes much more stable than those of fresh potatoes. By studying for Stability Coefficient to export prices for fresh and frozen potatoes during the time period 2000- 2012 showed that export prices of frozen Egyptian potatoes much more stable than those of fresh potatoes. Canada, France, Germany, and Netherlands are the most export countries that competing with Egypt on world market of potatoes, particularly fresh. When computing the price competitiveness of Egyptian fresh potatoes, the result shows that Egyptian potatoes are highly competing with open-mentioned European export countries. The price competitiveness of Egyptian frozen potatoes is relatively higher when comparing to other competitive markets of Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, etc. This shows great opportunity for Egypt for expanding its exports from frozen potatoes in nearly future. Using regression analysis of time series data, the study of demand for Egyptian exports of fresh potatoes indicated that Egyptian potatoes is considered as necessary good for consumers of open-mentioned countries based on estimated price and cross elasticities. It has also proven that there is a substitutional relationship between Egyptian fresh and frozen potatoes. An important result that insure the importance of re-drawing export policies of potatoes exports in Egypt.

The Research aimed at measuring the impact of using different irrigations systems on the production and economic efficiency of the main summer crops cultivated in New Lands at Alexandria Governorate. In order to reach this objective, the research adopted the following: 1) Presenting the benefits and costs of the main summer crops cultivated useing different irrigation systems. 2) Measuring some of the economic efficiency indicators related to summer vegetables crops cultivated under some irrigation systems (3) Estimating the economic and production efficiency of the study crops cultivated under some irrigation systems (4) Presnting some possible economic recommendations which can improve and increase the production and productivity of the study summer vegetables crops. The research applied some descriptive analysis method on the economic variables associated with the study, in addition to quantitative economic analysis method to assess the economic efficiency standards for vegetable crops under study. The stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) has been applied to estimate production functions using the FRONTIER (Version 4.1c). The research also relied on field questionnaire data collected from 100 farms representing the most important cultivators of summer vegetable crops including squash, pepper, and eggplant cultivated during 2011/2012 in Alexandria Governorate's New Lands using traditional and modern irrigation systems. Analysis results showed the following results about the impact of applicating modern irrigation systems on the production and economic efficiency: (1) High indicators of economic efficiency of the vegetable crops cultivated using modern irrigation systems compared with those cultivated using traditional irrigation system, which means more efficient use of the economic resources used producing vegetable crops under modern irrigation compared with those under traditional irrigation, which calls agricultural economic policy makers to increase attention and spread the idea of using modern irrigation systems, especially in New Land, in order to increase agricultural production and reduce the deficit in the trade balance. (2) Production Efficiency Coeffecients for squash, pepper, and eggplant cultivated under modern irrigation system reachede about 75%, 80%, and 83%, while reached about 89%, 93%, and 91% for the same crops cultivated under traditional irrigation systems, which indicates that the chances of vegetable crops cultivated under modern irrigation system are larger than for those cultivated under traditional irrigation system due to more efficient use of production resources (3) The Economic Efficiency Coefficients of squash, pepper, and eggplant cultivated under modern irrigation systems reached about 73%, 77%, and 79%, while reached about 87%, 90%, and 88% for the same crops cultivated using traditional irrigation systems, which indicates that the chances of vegetable crops cultivated under modern irrigation systems are larger than for those cultivated under traditional irrigation system due to more efficient use of economic resources and economic gain. In order to expand the cultivation of vegetable crops under modern irrigation systems and raise the productivity rate, the research recommends the following: (1) Increasing the effectiveness of extension activities through agricultural extension officers to transfer the research recommendations to farmers, and train them in order to improve their experience, and enhance the trend towards adopting the use of modern irrigation methods to enhance agriculture advancement, (2) Encouraging the specialized scientific research centers to develop fertilization programs that match the needs of crop cultivated under modern irrigation methods and soil quality.

This study covers some of the aspects related to the economic and export status of each of freeze and dry Foods to identify the export's development potential of these agricultural processed and to increase its competitiveness in the international market. The study also deals with some of the competitive indicators of these products comparing them with their competing countries in the main foreign markets; as well as studying the foreign demands indicators to these products and the main problems and challenges that stand in the way of developing these exports. Throughout the study, it was clear that the main problems facing agricultural processed exports are the high rate of agricultural losses and the low marketing performance that have additional adverse factors. Rising foreign shipments cost, absence of market information, as well as the growing foreign markets competence together with the restrictions and conditions imposed by importing countries accentuates also such problems.

AN ECONOMIC STUDY FOR PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION OF FISH IN EGYPT

The Fisheries is considered an important source of national income. Fish product is one of important component in the agricultural production. the problem of this study determined in increasing fish food gap with about 319 thousand tons in 2012. The study aimed to description and analysis of fish production in Egypt in terms of domestic production, imports, exports, consumption, the food gap, the proportion of self-sufficiency, the average per capita available amounts for consumption, In addition, studying the factors that effect on the production and consumption of fish in Egypt. The study should be verification the following results The fish production in Egypt is growing annually by about 55.9 thousand tons during the period average (1995-2012), which represents about 6.4% of the annual average, Imports of fish increase during the study period by about 4.5 tons by about 33.6 million pounds per year, and fish exports are increasing annually by about 0.68 tons by about 5.3 million pounds annually while the production of fish according to different sources show that fish farming ranked first by about 55.3% of the average amount of production, and the total northern lakes ranks second at about 14.7%, while the production of the Sea (White, Red ) ranked third by about 14.1%, and the River Nile is ranked fourth by about 10.2 and inland lakes and coastal ranked fifth and sixth by about 5.2%, 0.5% respectively during the study period . Nevertheless, the results show that there are statistically significant differences between the indicators during the period average (2008-2012). In addition, the results show that tilapia ranked first with an average production of about 646.4 thousand tons representing about 52.1%, While the average production of mullet, carp, catfish, reaches about 181.9, 142.1, 43.1 thousand tons respectively, representing about 14.7%, 11.5%, 3.5% respectively of the average total fish production during the period (2008-2012). The study also indicate that the most important economic factors that affecting on the fish production in Egypt is the amount of fish imports, the quantity of available fish, the partial elasticity of them are about -0.294 and 1.2, which indicates that an increase in the quantity of imports by about 1% leads to the decline of fish production by about 0.3%, increase the amount of fish consumption by about 1% lead to increase the amount of production by about 1.2%. However, the results show that the most important factors affecting on the amount of fish consumed in Egypt is the population and the average price of a kilogram of fish. Therefore, the study recommended the development of fisheries sector and set up of collection centers for the production of fish near fish farms, Moreover, the necessity of expansion in aquaculture to fill the fish food gap.

SOME INDICATORS OF VILLAGE LOCAL UNITS EFFICTIVENES SINBENISUEF GOVERNORATE

The study aims basically at identifying some indicators of village local unitseffictiveness in Benisuef Governorate. Personal interviews were conducted with directors of all the thirty nine village local units of Benisuef Governorate, using questionnaire was made to obtain the required data. A number of complementary statistical measures and techniques were utilized in the analysis of the collected data including: frequencies, arithmetic mean, weighted arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and alpha coefficient. According to the description of organizational effectiveness level and its components, the findings showed that: The first indicator: Goal attainment The findings showed that about (25.6%) of the studied village local units had a low level of goal attainment, and about (46.2%) of them had a mod- erate level, and finally about (28.2%) had a high level of goal attainment. The second indicator: Job satisfaction Findings showed that about (2.6%) of the local units directors had a low level of job satisfaction, and about (33.4%) of them had a moderate level, and finally about (64.0%) had a high level of job satisfaction. The third indicator: Organizational integration The findings indicated that about (2.6%) of the studied village local units had a low level of organizational integration, (23.0%) had a moderate level, and about (74.4%) of them had a high level of organizational integration. The fourth indicator: organizational productivity About (48.7%) of the studied local units had a low level of organizational productivity, (33.4%) had a moderate level, and about (17.9%) of them had a high level of organizational productivity.

SEASONALITY OF DEMAND FOR SOME EGYPTIAN VEGETABLES IN Cairo El- Abour MARKET

The study showed the the importance of the effect of seasonality in determining the amounts received for the transit market of vegetable crops in Egypt. As it turned out great linkage between the quantities and prices of vegetables in the transit market, which reflects the importance of reconsidering the random cropping and where there is no minimum or organizing thread. Where it should be to regulate the use of agricultural resources limited to Egypt and so achieve the maximum return for producers and consumers and the marketer and reduces wastage of resources in making a glitch between supply and demand, resulting in higher prices hurt consumer Login or drop in prices hurt farmers' incomes. It is worth noting that the changes in the agricultural sector, which is the main activity in the Egyptian countryside, especially in the light of economic liberalization policies such as the abolition of support for agricultural inputs, and the liberalization of prices of agricultural and left are determined by market forces, with the demolition of Tzawar marketing system for Khaddrady to irregular or balance of supply with the demand after the policy of economic liberalization in the agriculture sector, which increased from large fluctuations in prices as a result of increasing the gap between supply and demand for agricultural commodities, and all of these reasons have led to an increase in poverty in the countryside and in Egypt in particular. This reflects the importance of Tzawar marketing system and return to the installation Almsola Central, which balances the needs of the consumer growing and limited agricultural resources by reducing the size of the gap between supply and demand, which reduces the price differences during the months of the year and which is reflected in the increase in income and welfare of the consumer and the producer together. The return of the agricultural cycle of the most important requirements for achieving balance in the prices of vegetables in Egypt and reduces loss in the limited agricultural resources and achieve the protection of soil fertility and reduces the need for fertilizers and pesticides. This regulation of the market productive agricultural reduce the imbalance between supply and demand, which increases the efficiency of the distribution of the use of agricultural resources among the wider use of alternative optimal resource allocation and reduce the waste of limited agricultural resources. Decreases as well as huge losses for producers and consumers at the micro level as well to reduce the negative effects on the macro level by reducing imports and increasing exports, where there is improved efficiency performance in the Egyptian agricultural sector at the micro level and kidneys.

DOES SILICON ALLEVIATE the INJURIES of NITROGEN DEFICIENCY and FENOXAPROP–P–ETHYL HERBICIDE in WHEAT (Triticum aestivum, L.)?

Si application alleviates influence of some abiotic stresses on crop plants. Meanwhile, scarce information is avaiable about the significance of Si for helping the plants to overcome the injuries of N deficiency and herbicides pressure. Thus, two–year 2–field experiments were carried out in wheat. Experiment I involved three Si concentrations (Si0ppm, Si250ppm and Si500ppm) and two N levels(N100% and N50%). Experiment II examined four combinations of fenoxaprop–p–ethyl and Si: fenoxaprop–p–ethyl+Si250ppm and fenoxaprop–p–ethyl+Si500ppm (each either in sequence or in tank mixture), fenoxaprop–p–ethyl alone, hand weeding and weedy check. Under N deficiency (N50%), Si500ppm increased plant height as compared to the control. No significant differences in SPAD values were detected amongst Si concentrations under each of the two tested N levels. Si can partially alleviate negative N deficiency effect on wheat yield, causing its increase to level obtained under normal N supply. Si has no effect on weed biomass when applied with fenoxaprop–p–ethyl either in sequence or in tank mixing. The most promising treatment for maximizing wheat grain yield was the application of 100 kg N ha–1 (N50%) x fenoxaprop–p–ethyl+Si250ppm in sequence", which also, in the same time, means reducing both cost of crop production and environment pollution.

A laboratory experiment was carried out to study the early growth response of 22 sugar beet (Beta vulgaris, L.) varieties to four salt concentrations of seawater i.e. 2000, 4000, 8000 and 16000 ppm. Germination and seedling growth traits (germination percentage (%), germination rate, seedling length (cm), seedling fresh weight (mg) and seedling vigor) were determined at the end of the experiment after 30 days from planting. The results showed that increasing the salinity level decreased the germination %, germination rate, seedling length, seedling fresh weight and seedling vigor of all sugar beet varieties under investigation to different extents. The results also clearly revealed that the response of the investigated varieties to salt concentrations was not the same, some varieties approved to be highly salt tolerant i.e. Soultan, Kawmira and Desprez; others were very sensitivity tolerant i.e. Helsiniki and LP16. However most of the investigated varieties were moderately salt tolerant. Results revealed clearly that the interaction effect between sugar beet varieties and salt concentrations was significant. This significant effect means that the tested varieties do not behave the same under the different levels of salinity stress.

A green house experiment was carried out in two successive seasons on date Palm plantlets (Phoenix dactylifera L. cv. Bartomouda) from 2012 to 2013, to evaluated the effectiveness of different sources of nitrogen fertilizer at four treatments as (T2) 5 g/l ammonium sulfate 20 % (1 g nitrogen), (T3) 3 g/l potassium nitrate 33% (1 g nitrogen) and (T4) 2 g/l urea (46%) with the irrigation water one time/ week.The design of the experiment was randomized complete with three replicates. The results revealed that, plant height cm, leaves numbers, root length cm and numbers, and fresh and dry weights of leaves and roots were increasing highly significantly with 3 g/l of potassium nitrate graduated by 2 g/l urea and 5 g/l ammonium sulfate respectively at both seasons. Chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids contents showed significant rising with 3 g/l potassium nitrate. Greatest significant contents of indole and proline were obtained under T3 for two seasons. Leaves nitrogen content N was increased by 2 g/l urea in the two seasons; on the other hand, root nitrogen content was increased with treatment 3 g/l potassium nitrate, sequenced by T2 and T4 treatments. Leaves and roots phosphorus P content significantly raising under 3g/l potassium nitrate and 5 g/l ammonium sulfate for two seasons. In the presence of 5 g/l ammonium sulfate and 3 g/l potassium nitrate leaves and root potassium content K were largest at two seasons respectively. This research shows that the nitrogen formula as potassium nitrate > ammonium sulfate > urea were recommended to highly increasing growth of date palm plantlets in the green house.

INFLUENCE OF USING SOME SAFETY MATERIALS ON WATER REQUIREMENT AND WATER USE EFFICIENCY OF SNAP BEAN PLANT

Two field experiments were conducted during the two successive seasons of 2011/2012 at the Experimental Farm, Kaha station, Qulubia Governorate to study the effect of using four levels of water regime ,i.e. 60%, 80%, 100 and 120% from class A pan evaporation and five safety materials, i.e. water (as control),amino-z, lithovit (a natural intensified CO2 foliar fertilizer ) as foliar spray on snap bean plants as well as the biofertilize mycorrhizal as a seed treatment before sowing and sap material as a absorbent polymer to increase with holding water capacity before sowing and the effect of that on growth, green snap bean yield Poulista cv ., physical and chemical characters as well as water use efficiency. The results indicated that, mycorrhizal seed treatment, lithovit foliar spray and soil treatment with sap material gave the highest values of green pod characters as well as the vegetative growth, in addition all the safety material used led to significant increment on pod yield and the favorable treatments were obtained by using sap material and foliar spray with amino -z. Concerning to using safety materials with water regime levels, it was found that, spraying snap bean plants with amino- z and irrigation with 120% levels from class A pan evaporation was the superior treatment on green pod yield followed by soil treatment with sap material with 60% of water level. Regarding to the mean of green pod weight, the results showed that treating seed with mycorrhizal and 120% level of water regime gave the highest values during the two seasons, then the treatment of foliar spray with lithovite with 80% level of water regime and the treatment by sap soil treatments with supplied by 60% of water irrigation. Concerning to water use efficiency, the data showed that supplied the plants with the highest amount of water 120% and 100% from water irrigation decreased the values of water use efficiency, on the contrary , it can obtained the highest values of water use efficiency from water supplied with 60% then 80% calculated by class A pan evaporation method. Regarding to the effect of safety material on water use efficiency, it was found that, sap treatment or foliar spray with amino-z then, mycorrhizal treatments gave the highest value of water use efficiency. Generally, it can recommend by using sap material of soil addition before sowing and foliar spray by amino- z followed by treating the seeds with mycorrhizal with irrigation level 60% or 80%to obtained the favorable green pod yield and the favorable water use efficiency.

MANUFACTURE OF SWEETENED FULL-FAT YOGHURT WITH DIFFER-ENT CALORIES CONTENT

The present study was carried out as an attempt to manufacture and study the properties of sweetened full-fat yoghurt with different calories content by using 9% sucrose (Sug), 0.015% sucralose (Suc), 5% prepared dates powder (DP) and whole cow's milk . Changes in pH values during fermentation period were followed. The resultant yoghurt was analyzed for chemical composition, some physical and sensory properties as well as the energy content for the fresh and stored yoghurt. The results showed that, treatments had insignificant effect on the activity of yoghurt starter culture. Sug and Suc had insignificant effect on the acidity and pH either in fresh or stored yoghurt, whereas the use of DP increased them significantly. No significant increase in acidity or decrease in pH values were recorded during storage period. TS, ash and carbohydrates contents were greatly affected due to adding 9% Sug and 5% DP, whereas fat and protein were not affected by the used additives, while due to storage period the effects were insignificant. Sug and DP treatments had the highest significant energy values (97.26 and 82.76 kcal/100 g in order), while Suc gave an opportunity to prepare sweetened low-calorie yoghurt with insignificant differences compared to the control. The significant increase in curd tension (CT) in Sug-yoghurt was accompanied by lower curd syneresis (CS) in most cases as compared with those of the control samples. Sensory properties were not significantly affected by treatments, but sucralose caused more smoothness and sweetness when compared with sucrose. DP-yoghurt had slightly brown colour which was colour for set yoghurt. In general, all samples were free from bitterness rejected by some panelists and accepted by others, who found it an accepted no, cooked and foreign flavours.

EFFECT OF PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE BY 5΄-INOSINE MONOPHOSPHATE ON THE FERTILITY OF MALE RATS

This work aimed to study the effect of partial replacement of monosodium glutamate (MSG) by 5΄ inosine monophosphate (5΄-IMP) on the fertility of male rats after oral administration for 90 days. Before the biological treatment, a half amount of MSG as flavor enhancer in chicken burger was replaced by 5´IMP. The sensory assessment of cocked chicken burger confirmed that this used mixture (1:1 w/w) had a synergistic effect and led to improve the flavor intensity compared to that with MSG. Treatments were applied by stomach tube (mg/kg BW); (i) MSG, [60 for adult; 30 for weaned rats]; (ii) Mixture (1:1; w/w) of MSG and 5΄-IMP [30:30 for adults; 15:15 for weaned rats] and (iii) 5΄-IMP [30 for adult; 15 for weaned rats]. Body weight gain (BWG%) and weight of some reproductive organs including testes, prostate, cauda epididymes and seminal vesicles were measured. Serum testosterone and interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH) and seminal fructose content were assayed. Spermatozoa activity and the histology of reproductive organs were also studied in adult and weaned male rat groups. Severe negative effects on most studied parameters were demonstrated in MSG-groups, where the lowest fructose content in prostate, testosterone levels and spermatozoal activities were recorded. Reduction in the weight of cauda epididymes and testes was recorded in MSG-treated weaned rats. Histologically, all studied reproductive organs were dramatically affected by MSG-treatment. Considerable enhancements in the studied parameters and normal histological profiles were obtained due to the partial replacement of MSG by 5΄-IMP. In conclusion, 5΄-IMP has a potential protective effect against MSG-hazards in reproductive organs.

CHEMICAL CONTROL OF ANNUAL RYEGRASS GROWING WITH BARLEY DURING PRE-EMERGENCE STAGE BY METHABENZTHIAZURON, ISOPROTORON AND CHLOROTOLURON

Treatments by three herbicides named; Methabenzthiazuron, Isoprotoron and Chlorotoluron to control Italian ryegrass growing with barley during pre-emergence stage were investigated. Results showed that clear damage have been occurred by the three chemicals without prominent effect on barley plants. Italian ryegrass was controlled significantly (p<0.01) by all of the herbicides used but the three herbicides differed significantly (p<0.05) in their effects. Chlorotoluron gave effective control of Lolium multiflorum at dose of 2kg a.i/ha and slight damage on barley was observed. Isoproturon and methabenzthiazuron were less effective as more than 40% of Lolium multiflorum survived at different doses while barley was not affected significantly.

THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT TYPES AND RATES OF FERTILIZERS ON THE POPULATION DENSITY OF SAP SUCKING PESTS INHABITING COWPEA FIELDS

This study was carried out during 2012 and 2013 seasons in the Horticultural Research Station at Kanater El- Khairiya, Qualiobeya Governorate to throw light on the effect of different types and rates of fertilizer treatments on the rates of infestation of the cowpea plants, Vigna unguiculata L. by different pests Tetranychus urticae, T. cucurbitacearum (eggs and motile stages), Bemisia tabaci (eggs, nymphs, pupae & adults), Thrips tabaci (nymphs & adults) and green Jassids and on the resultant crop yield. Data revealed that treatment with NPK mixture recorded the highest infestation rate by T. urticae Koch, T.cucurbitacearum (Sayed) and T. tabaci in the two seasons, while the K2O fertilizer revealed the lowest infestation rates. Moreover, the N2 fertilizer recorded the highest infestation with whitefly and Jassids. The brown scale insects, Coccus hesperidium Linnaeus were firstly recorded in Egypt on cowpea plants but throughout the first season only. The mixture treatments resulted highest yield (2428.3 &2675 Kg./fed.) followed by Micro-element treatments (1500 &1658.3 Kg./fed.) then K2O fertilizer treatment (1416.7 & 1553.3 Kg. /fed.) in 2012 and 2013, respectively; being significantly higher than control which recorded (756.0 & 845.0 Kg. / fed.) for the two seasons. However, the results showed a significant improvement in the uptake of NPK over the control, so it increased the production.

BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF LASIODIPLODIA ROT OF MANGO FRUITS BY YEASTS

Ninety nine yeast isolates were isolated from surface of mango fruits and were tested in vivo in preliminary study for biocontrol potential of Lasiodiplodia rot of mango fruits. According to primary screening, nine isolates were selected to continue the secondary screening using different concentrations of the washed yeast cells in water suspension to study their biocontrol efficacy at 16±1°C. It was found that using washed cells of yeast isolate Mg 147 (Candida multisgemmis) at 1x109, 5x108 and 2x108 CFU/ml produced complete protection for 14 days to wounds of mango fruit inoculated with spore suspension of the fungusLasiodiplodia theobromae 1x105 conidia/ml. Meantime, no lesion developed on the mango fruit treated with the isolates Mg 39 (Pichia guilliermondii strainA) at the highest tested colony forming unit (CFU) levels, i.e. 1x109 and 5x108 CFU/ml. Supernatant of the yeast cultures, tested in secondary screening, did not prevent spore germination of L. theobromae or decay of wounded mango fruit but had inhibitory effect. However, 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment significantly reduced the infected area mm2 on mango fruit inoculated with L. theobromae (1x105 conidia/ml) during the 14 days of storage at 16±1°C and improved efficacy of isolates Mg147 and Mg39. When applied as combined treatments between 1-MCP and biocontrol agents, no lesion developed on the fruit treated with the isolate Mg 147 at 1x 108 CFU/ml or higher. Meanwhile, no lesion developed on the fruit treated with the isolate Mg 39 at 2x 108 CFU/ml or higher while, the percentages of rot reduction were ranged between 94.1% - 81.3% for concentrations 1x108 and 6.6x107 CFU/ml respectively.
